Gisele Bündchen Joins the Rainforest Alliance Board

We’re thrilled to share that international supermodel, entrepreneur and environmental activist Gisele Bündchen has joined our Board of Directors. In her role as a board member, Bündchen will help shape the vision, strategic plans and policies that guide the Rainforest Alliance’s development and global sustainability efforts

“Along with her acute business acumen, Gisele brings an authentic passion for environmental issues and social innovation,” says Rainforest Alliance President Tensie Whelan. “We look forward to working together to expand our current sustainability initiatives and to develop new and creative strategies to tackle social and environmental challenges worldwide.”

Bündchen has a well-established commitment to environmental responsibility. She launched a green blog in 2008, and co-hosted the Rainforest Alliance’s annual gala in 2009. Bündchen has also supported a variety of environmental causes, including initiatives around clean water, environmental sustainability and the preservation of South American rainforests.

“I have long admired the work of the Rainforest Alliance and its positive impact on the environment. Its mission aligns with my own long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship,” says Bündchen. “As a Rainforest Alliance board member, I look forward to calling upon my experience not only as an international spokesperson but as an entrepreneur and global citizen to support the Rainforest Alliance’s on-the-ground efforts.”

In 2009, Bündchen was awarded the title of goodwill ambassador by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In May 2011, she was named Harvard’s 2011 Global Environmental Citizen in recognition of her eco-efforts. Later that year, she was called the Greenest Celebrity at the 2011 International Green Awards at the National History Museum of London.
